Fiddler’s Waves Summer Concert 2019

Fiddler’s Waves Summer Concert 2019 in collaboration with Majha house organized by Tannya Khanna.
Tannya Khanna co-ordinated the event and also told a story to the children in the form of song. Children performed in front of their parents/grandparents. Keep the music going as that’s the only one chord which keeps the world connected!

Children felt the magic as Matilda celebrated 30years in October. Majha House organised story telling by The Book Fairy, followed by the screening of the movie Matilda. The event brought lots of smiles n giggles in Majha House.

Gruffalo comes to Majha House.
Story session for the kids where a Book Fairy read the story to the kids from the book ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson, followed by the movie. More than 30 kids attended the session.

Conversation With Dr. Anirudh Kala

Dr Anirudh Kala in conversation with Nirupama Dutt about his new novel The Unsafe Asylum -Stories of partition and madness.

Dr Anirudh talked about the impact of partition on the mental health of the people and trauma of a lifetime that they suffered. He also narrated the stories of a few mental patients and how they coped up with partition.

VIKRAM KAPUR , author of ‘THE ASSASSINATIONS‘ A NOVEL OF 1984 in conversation with KIRANDEEP KAUR On 4TH AUGUST, 2018. Vikram Kapur talked about his book on 1984 riots, which rocked the nation. It turned into an interactive session with the audience sharing their painful memories.

Screening of LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, an Oscar winning movie that deals with the darkest chapter of the history, The Holocaust, in a lighter view, curated by Dr Venus Singh.

Dramatized Reading at Cafe Kikli!

Jharri of 5 new crisp Punjabi books by masters from India, Pakistan, and USA and be a part of beginning of a new trend for our mother tongue.

Short dramatized readings by Poonam Singh and Amritsar’s established artist Jagdish Sachdeva, Vijay Sharma and Sudesh Winkle. Followed by singing of new bolis with Sufu Authority Dr Iqbal Kaur anad Gidda with some spirited ladies of Amritsar with dholak and algoza.

Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond – Dramatized Reading

A story telling session by Nazi Puri with more than 25 children in attendance. A drawing session which engages the children with the story—The Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond was also organised.

Café Kikli – Opening a Pop-UP book cafe, 14 July, 2018

Majha House has opened a new and exciting library cum book café. This is something that Amritsar does not have—a community space that allows for the building of a vibrant book reading culture.
There was a discussion around a book with the author and two discussants. There was a music performance organized as well with local talent. More than
70 people came to attend the session. This again shows the need for such platforms and spaces in the city.
Story

Children’s Violin Recital, June, 2018

Four young children and their Violin Teacher Mr Misra performed at the Annex at Majha House to a small, engaged audience. The idea was to showcase young talent and also to provide a platform for such activities in the community.

 

Art Therapy Workshop, May 2018

An Art Therapy Workshop was conducted by Aarti Khanna a local volunteer wherein she engaged children in a drawing and storytelling session. Majha House invited participation from 30 schoolchildren of a government aided school who benefitted from the session.
